How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming - Mike Brown Mike Brown tells an engaging story about how he and his colleagues at Caltech discovered a series of Pluto-like objects at the fringe of the solar system that ultimately cast doubt on Pluto's status as a planet. When Pluto was discovered in 1930 it was declared a planet based on the best science of the time, but as more was learned about it over the years it became increasingly obvious that Pluto had been misidentified. Along the way Brown gets married, becomes a father, and provides a valuable service to scientific purists, but pisses off anthropomorphizing sentimentalists who feel he was mean to Pluto.
