I enjoyed the opportunity to finally read Ellison's Star Trek script as written, considering he has always alleged that it was ruined by the alterations made to it in production. The bulk of the book is taken up by a long essay by Ellison telling the story of his involvement with Star Trek and vilifying producer Gene Roddenberry. Generations of Star Trek fans have made a sort of saint out of Roddenberry, but he was a television producer and you do not get to the top of that particular business by being a nice person.
