Triton - Samuel R. Delany Delany's "ambiguous heterotopia" is set in a society in which all manner of alternate lifestyles are not just embraced but codified into laws for the numerous subcultures which citizens can select from and join. The main character is a deeply conflicted man full of psychological issues. A chance encounter with a beautiful woman sends him down a path of obsession, resentment, and self-loathing. Not your typical science fiction adventure story, but well worth your time for the fascinating look at an extreme liberal cultural on Triton and for the author's sociological and psychological insights.
