Time Out Of Joint - Philip K. Dick My favorite Philip Dick novel is also (I believe) the last of his novels in which the main character finds his way out of illusion and back to reality. A man lives in suburban 1950's California which turns out to be an elaborate fake. To the modern reader the Fifties setting seems obviously fake, but the mind-blower is that Dick was living in 1950's California when he wrote the book and was suggesting that the world around him might be a simulation. This pretty much sets the tone for a lot of Dick's later work.
