Starship Troopers - Robert A. Heinlein If you have ever seen the 1957 movie The D. I. with Jack Webb as a Marine Corps drill instructor then you are already familiar with the plot of Starship Troopers. The novel is a love song to life in the infantry and generations of Science Fiction writers have been inspired or appalled by it in equal numbers. Pretty much every military SF novel from Forever War to Ender's Game was written either in tribute to or in reaction to Starship Troopers. Whatever you think of Heinlein's politics, he definitely knew how to tell an entertaining story.
