James Robinson has shown in books like The Golden Age and Starman that he has a real affinity for DC's older legacy characters, but the characters in Earth 2 are not actually the DC golden age characters. These are brand new characters with the same names as the old characters. If this book was set on yet another world of the multiverse, a world with alternate versions of Jay Garrick and Alan Scott, while the original versions existed simultaneously on their own Earth, I would be more comfortable with the new iteration. I miss Wally West as much as anybody, but writing Jay Garrick as Wally West seems a little disrespectful of both characters.
I really wanted to like this book more than I did. Nicola Scott is one of the most dynamic artists working in comics today. There is a lot to like here. I just wish DC was publishing a book featuring the old Justice Society alongside this book featuring alternate versions.
